In Willow Springs we pride ourselves on the unmatched beauty of our natural surroundings. What a bonus to wake up every day to the natural beauty of our southern borders.
Now is your chance to show your support for our local Palos Trail System and bring dollars back to our area to maintain its beauty. All you have to do is lift a finger. But that’s it.
American Hiking Society and Michelob Ultra are funding a contest for trail work around the country. “Trails for Illinois” has been chosen as a recipient. The contest involves people for their favorite trail among 12 trails nationally. Click HERE to vote for the Palos Trail System.
Trails for Illinois will use the prize money to partner with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (CAMBr) and the Flatlander Ultrarunners on trial projects next Spring.
The total funding available for the 12 projects is $200,000. Each of the organizations featured in the contest will receive $5,000 for their participation, and then voting determines the percentage of remaining funds ($140,000) each trail receives. First place is worth $21,000. Fourth place, where Palos trails currently sit, is worth $16,000.
Voting is open until November 24.
As you know, the Palos preserves generate thousands of visits daily to the Palos area, and play an even larger role in the well-being and quality of life for communities lucky enough to be near it. Trails are where conservation and well-being meet. Since trails are how most people access Palos, and access has the largest impact on the Palos ecosystem, growing volunteers’ ability to repair, maintain and sustainably expand that system is critical for all trail users and the ecology and the landscape that draw all of us to it.
Please take less than a minute to show your support and bring some recognition and needed dollars to help fund trail preservation in the nearby Palos Woods. All you have to do is Click HERE and enter a valid email address. That’s it.
Tell your friends. Educate your family. Share the link. Deadline is November 24. It’s a no-brainer. Please help out.
