The Village of Willow Springs and the Willow Springs Police Department mourn the loss of Police Officer Jason Gallero, who passed away on Thursday, September 15.
Officer Gallero died in the line of duty after collapsing while participating in a colors run at the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Training Academy, where he served as a highly respected instructor to recruits of the Cook County Sheriff’s office and other law enforcement agencies across Cook County.
Officer Gallero, 46, worked as a part-time officer of the WSPD since July 2011.
In addition to being a highly-trained law enforcement professional, Officer Gallero displayed a genuine caring personality. He was well-respected and admired by his fellow officers and by the residents he served and protected. An avid motorcycle rider, Officer Gallero represented the Police Department on many fund-raising rides across the State. He most recently rode to raise money and awareness in causes such as the Annual Cook County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Ride for Veterans and the Annual Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Tour (FAST).
Locally he rode motorcycle patrol protecting the public at Village events such as the Annual Benefit Car Show, The Illinois State Bike Race Series, the Annual Children’s Fishing Derby, and the Annual Memorial Day Observance.
He will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
